The Makalu base camp trek 22 days course lies in the region of Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area in the core of Eastern Nepal. The main meeting point for this walk is Makalu Barun National Park, which is located in the Solukhumbhu and Sankhuwasabha regions. In 1992, the National Park was constructed. Arun Valley, dense rhododendron and fir forests, lofty glades that lead to the unrelenting Barun glacial mass, the sumptuous, tropical Arun Valley, and other notable environmental zones may all be found in Makalu trekking, which was originally a small trekking area. The five most notable mountains in the world include Mount Makalu (8463m), Chamlang Himal, and Barun Valley, which are the real highlights of this trekking region.
The trekking regions of Makalu and Everest are close to one another. The trip to Makalu Base Camp is one of the most remote and unexplored trekking regions in all of Nepal. Makalu Base Camp Trekking is challenging and amazing.
The Makalu Barun region, which has a wide range of altitudinal and climatic variations, provides a remarkable and unique setting for a vast variety of vegetation. Here, you can find plants from all of the major natural zones, including sub-tropical, tropical, moderate, elevated, and sub-snow topped. In addition, the recreation complex is home to a wide variety of wild animals.
Everest and Makalu's trekking areas are close to one another. One of Nepal's most isolated and uncharted trekking areas is the journey to Makalu Base Camp. Trekking to Makalu Base Camp is difficult and spectacular.
A wonderful and distinctive environment for a diverse diversity of plants may be found in the Makalu Barun region due to its extensive range of altitudinal and climatic differences. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)
On the first day after your safe landing at Tribhuwan International Airport (Kathmandu), our agents warmly invite you with awesome regard and brief your upcoming trek/climb with us, and introduce our trekking/ climbing guide. Evening, we host a welcome dinner at one of the finest local restaurants with music and ethnic dance. Stay overnight at the Hotel.
Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing and trekking preparation Kathmandu Valley is the real spot to sight major cultural and historical sites. Early morning, we step forward to sightsee some historical spots which are on UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After spending some hours exploring these locations, we return for finalizing our trekking equipment, which is required during our trek, and this night we spend at the fine hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar then drive to Chichira (1,980m) 50 mins flight, 3-4 hrs drive
We fly to Tumlingtar after breakfast and meet the rest of the crew members who will also be joining us for the trek. Next, we drive to Chichira, a small Gurung settlement. We take a rest at Chichira as we need to be prepared for the next day’s trek. Overnight in Chichira
Day 04: Chichira to Num (1,560m) 6-7 hrs
We start early in the morning and head towards Num right after a warm breakfast. A moderately paced walk through the picturesque villages and lush mountain forests will take us to Num. A ridgeline with great views on both sides and perched on the end, this is Num for us. Overnight in Num
Day 05: Num to Seduwa (1,500m): 6-7 hrs
A steep descent through forests and terraced farms takes us to the Barun River. We cross the river and follow an equally steep ascent up the other side again. Often quite hot - the forest in the valleys offers a bit of shade. This is where Makalu Barun National Park begins and where we register our permits. We camp right at the top of the village. Day 06: Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,100m) 4-5 hrs
Ascend the ridge bounded by the Ipsuwa Khola on the west and Kasuwa Khola on the east. Crossing the hillside through quiet villages and passing by small paddy fields, we reach the exotic village of Tashi Gaon. Once there, we are surrounded by a breathtaking Himalayan panorama. Day 07: Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3,500m): 6-7 hrs
This will be a bit of a tough day as we have to walk on a steep trail at a higher elevation. We will ascend through forests to a stream and then onto a ridge. From here the trail gets even steeper and passes a Kharka (grazing land) and finally follows a series of rough stone stairs and small lakes ascending to the top of the ridge. From here it’s a short way down to Khongma Danda. Overnight in Khongma Danda
Day 08: Acclimatization Day
The day off will allow some bodily rest before we take on crossing the Shipton La the next day. Those who wish to explore the nearby surrounding can walk around the area. Overnight in Khongma Danda
Day 09: Khongma Danda to Dobate 6-7 hrs
Climb towards the summit of the Shipton La (pass) which takes a few hours to reach. After the lake, Kalo Pokhari (3930m), passes over the Keke La at 4,170m. We can see the marvelous views of Chamlang (7321m), Peak 6 (6,524m), and Peak 7 (6,758m). After crossing the Keke La pass, we descend through the beautiful valley to Dobate. Overnight in Dobate
Day 10: Dobate to Yangri Kharka (3,557m) 6-7 hrs
From Dobate, we pass through the rhododendron forest which leads to the Barun River and the upper reaches of the valley. We should be very careful during the first two hours of the trek as the trail is steep and arduous. We then take a pleasant walk, slowly gaining altitude until we arrive at Yangri Kharka situated at the base of the valley. Overnight at Yangri Kharka
Day 11: Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka (4,410m) 5-6 hrs
Following a moderate walk to the valley, we pass through yak pastures, lush forests, and boulder fields. The valley walls tower imposingly above us during the start of the trek. We pass Merek as we make our way further up and notice a significant rise in the scenic Himalayan views. Overnight in Langmale Kharka
Day 12: Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp (4,870m) 6-7 hrs
Today is the day we make it to the Base Camp. From Langmale Kharka we make our way up to Shershong and eventually to Makalu Base Camp. The trail is flat with icy glaciers and snow-clad mountains accompanying us. Mount Makalu comes into view as we approach Shershong. As we make our way to the camp, we get to soak in the majestic Himalayan panorama surrounding us. Overnight at Makalu Base Camp
Day 13: Explore Makalu Base Camp
The Base Camp is a rocky barren place with the large Barun Glacier beyond it. From here we can see the magnificent south face of Makalu and the complete panorama of Everest and Lhotse. We can explore the surrounding lakes, and glaciers and go for a short trek up to where we may celebrate our accomplishments at the camp itself. Overnight at Makalu Base Camp
Day 14: Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka 6-7 hrs
We descend from the base camp and take our last glimpse of Makalu before turning the corner and heading back. On our way down, we pass through Shershong, Langmale Kharka, and Merek and descend the valley finally stopping at Yangri Kharka. Overnight at Yangri Kharka
Day 15: Yangri Kharka to Dobate 6-7 hrs
From Yangri Kharka we descend through rock falls, green forests, and valley, making our way towards Dobate. We follow the river banks of Barun as we descend the trail. Overnight at Dobate
Day 16: Dobate to Khongma Danda 5-6 hrs
We begin the trek with a steep climb from Dobate to Mumbuk (Nambuk) and through a forest of firs and rhododendrons. We then cross the Keke La, Tutu La (Shipton’s Pass), and Kauma La en route. Next, we descend to Khongma Danda again. Overnight in Khongma Danda
Day 17: Khongma Danda to Tashigaon 4-5 hrs
The trek continues with frequent long and steep descent cutting through the hillsides. The trail takes us through thick forests and finally makes it to the indigenous Sherpa village of Tashigaon. Overnight in Tashigaon
Day 18: Tashigaon to Seduwa 4-5 hrs
We retrace our steps as we exit the Makalu Barun National Park and descend to the Barun River. We then cross the hillside and come across villages and settlements as we move further down finally stopping at Seduwa again. Overnight at Seduwa
Day 19: Seduwa to Num 5-6 hrs
We leave Seduwa and trek through lush forests toward Num. The trail goes up and down and passes through dense forests and Sherpa villages as we move downwards. Overnight at Num
Day 20: Num to Tumlingtar 6-7 hrs
Again we retrace our footsteps to Chichira from where we can savor the glorious vista of Mount Makalu for the last time. The final return leg of the trek will see us overnight at Tumlingtar, ready for an early departure to Kathmandu the following day. Overnight at Tumlingtar
Day 21: Tumlingtar to Kathmandu 50 mins flight
Today, we fly back to Kathmandu after our long trek in the mountains. We can rest and relax throughout the day at our hotel or get in touch with our loved ones. In the evening we celebrate our successful journey to the Makalu base camp and back with a farewell dinner. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 22: Departure day
Observing a brief time, you can proceed onward forward for shopping to seize keepsakes for your families or loved ones. We help you with your fundamental plans and pack-ups along with our private vehicle escorts you to the air terminal focusing on the flight schedule. Visa Information
All visitors are required to arrange a visa to enter Nepal. A Nepalese visa can be easily obtained upon arrival on arrival in Kathmandu at the airport or the Nepalese embassy abroad. But nationals from Afghanistan, Iraq, Cameroon, Ghana, Somalia, Swaziland, Palestine, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Liberia cannot secure the Nepalese Visa upon arrival. The Visa can also be secured at the entry points at Nepalese borders. A valid passport for at least six months and a recent digital photo (size: 1.5" x 1.5") will be required and you can obtain visas for Nepal from the Nepalese Consulate in your country or upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport. Nepalese visas cost USD 25 for 15 days and USD 40 for 30 days to date.
Official Papers
Some of the required official documents are your valid passport, 4 extra passport-sized photographs (for trekking permits), travel insurance, airline tickets, and luggage tags. Visas can be obtained upon entry into Nepal.
Weather Information
The weather in the mountains is pretty difficult to predict. Nights are generally cooler and days are warm. The months of winter (January and February) are a bit colder but the days can be quite beautiful and warm if the sun is out. It snows during January, February, and December in the Himalayan areas.
Best time to travel
Nepal offers diversified geographical regions and so the climatic condition differs from the Himalayas to the plains. The climate varies as per the season. Nepal generally offers 4 seasons amongst which autumn and spring are the two most favorable ones for visiting Nepal. It is always wise to know about the weather and climatic condition of the place you visit. The best time to travel depends on your destination, activities, and season of travel. Our destination specialists will recommend certain travel times after learning more about your preferences. The favorable months for trekking and climbing are usually September – November, and February – April. The monsoon season is from June – August.
Physical Fitness
Even though physical fitness plays an important role in trekking you don’t have to be a super athlete or a marathon runner to trek in Nepal. Many people of good fitness for their age can complete the trek. You can prepare yourself beforehand by doing some yoga which will prepare you for your breathing as you will be going to a higher altitude. Running or hiking on hills, or going for a long walk will also help you. And if you live in an urban area running down the stairs of a tall building will also work better in keeping you fit for trekking. Though these preparations aren’t strictly compulsory, you can do well even when the preparations you do aren’t rigorous like that of some ultra-athletic person. Do these things at a moderate pace for two months or even less? And you are set to complete any trekking to Nepal.
Travel Insurance
Doing insurance while trekking in Nepal is not compulsory but will surely help you a lot if you do one, as it covers any comprehensive expenses possible to acquire due to medical issues or accidents. Your travel insurance must protect air ambulance, treatment charges, rescue and evacuation, product cancellation and refundable charges, flight delays, and cancellations. We suggest you bring your travel insurance certificate or send us to scan copy and it must be issued from your homeland. We do not arrange or sell insurance so you can find your local travel insurance for this.
Vaccination for Nepal
All travelers should consult with their physician or update on vaccination requirements before travel. (Your doctor or health-care provider will determine what you will need, depending on factors such as your health and immunization history, areas of the country you will be visiting, and planned activities) For traveling to Nepal; we recommend you take vaccination of Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Rabies, etc, it is not really must but recommended.

We need a 20% booking amount to confirm your booking, the payment can be made through Bank transfer, Credit card payment (Master/Visa card), or online money transfers also Money Gram, Western Unions, or others. After we get the 20% amount, we will confirm your booking and you will get the official booking and payment receipt. The final balance for the tour will be paid upon arrival in Kathmandu.
Safety Guidelines
Do proper research about the company that you are planning to trek with and make sure they are a legally registered travel agency.
You should be well acquainted with travel health and travel insurance before traveling.
Have an idea about the climate, geography, temperature, and environment of Nepal before starting your trip.
Using credit cards instead of cash is a wiser idea.
The majority of the Nepalese people are nicer but there are a few scammers you will come meet on your way and need to avoid, for example, ‘holy men who will try to plant a tika (a red paste denoting a blessing) on your forehead demanding payment for it on streets.
Be careful while buying medicinal herbs as some may be illegal for you to take home and also be aware of duplicate products.
Never get involved in doing drugs, trafficking, and sexual relations with minors as there are strict rules for these cases, and might get you into a big problem.
Take copies of your passport, visa, air ticket, and trekking permits and keep them separately from the originals.
Prepare yourself for altitude sickness and be familiar with its symptoms so that you can follow the guidelines for safe acclimatization.
